Meta ad rejections

Facebook ad rejected for a non-functional landing page

The ad text passed and the destination did not. Sometimes the page is genuinely broken. More often it loads fine for you and still fails review, because Meta checks it from a different region, on mobile, without your cookies, and compares what it finds against what the ad promised.

What Meta’s notice says

landing pagenon-functionaldestinationbroken linkcontent mismatch

What triggers it

  • 01The page returns an error, redirects repeatedly, or times out from Meta's crawler
  • 02The ad promises an offer the page does not mention, which is the mismatch case
  • 03An interstitial, age gate, or cookie wall blocks the content
  • 04The page is geo-restricted and Meta reviews from outside your allowed region
  • 05The link is http rather than https

Before and after

Ad: "50% off winter coats" pointing at the homepage.

The same ad pointing at a page that shows the 50% off winter coats offer.

This is the most common cause and it does not look like a fault when you click it yourself.

Meta rejects insecure destinations outright.

How to fix it

  • Open the URL in a private window with no cookies, on mobile, and ideally through a VPN in another country.
  • Read the ad and the page side by side. Every specific promise in the ad should appear on the page.
  • Remove interstitials and redirect chains between the click and the content.
  • Confirm https and that the certificate is valid.

Partly caught before launch

Preflight checks that the destination uses https. It cannot fetch your page, so mismatch and availability faults are found by Triage after the rejection.

Policy Servo does not attempt an automatic rewrite for this category. A rewrite cannot fix it, so it goes to a human instead.

Questions

The page works for me. Why was it rejected?

Meta reviews without your cookies, often from another country, and frequently on mobile. Geo-restrictions and personalised redirects are the usual explanation.

Will rewriting the ad copy fix this?

Only if the fault is a mismatch, in which case matching the copy to the page works as well as changing the page. A broken or blocked page has to be fixed at the page.
